Stevie Ray Vaughan had played the clubs and bars of Texas for nigh on 15 years before his big break at 1982’s Montreux Festival and his subsequent appearance on David Bowie’s Let’s Dance album the following year.
• But once Stevie Ray took off there was no stopping him, and across the short period that his mainstream career lasted - tragically cut short by a fatal helicopter crash in 1990 - he built an enormous following from both blues fans who had lacked a true guitar hero guitar hero since Jimi Hendrix had passed away, and from younger enthusiasts tired of the plastic synth-scene that then dominated MTV and the Billboard charts.
• He released five studio albums during his short career and toured religiously - interrupted only by his months in rehab in 1986, and for a two-year period between 1987 and 1989 when he was unable to record or compose for legal reasons.
• This 3 CD collection features some of the finest live concerts ever performed by SRV, all recorded for FM Radio Broadcast so all in the finest possible quality, and all superb Stevie Ray shows, still remembered fondly by fans to this day.
• DISC ONE here spotlights Stevie Ray’s first ever radio broadcast, recorded by WNOR FM at The King's Head Inn, Norfolk, Virginia, on 22nd July 1980. Featuring the newly formed Double Trouble, and performed three years before his major label debut, this show illustrates perfectly what a dynamic player and frontman Vaughan was even at this early in his career.
• DISC TWO brings things forward a few years and features Stevie’s complete set played at the UK Reading Festival in 1983, a few weeks after the release of his debut Epic album, Texas Flood. Bonus cuts on DISC TWO come from his 1987 show at Manchester’s Apollo Theatre in 1988.
• DISC THREE concludes this extraordinary collection with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 1984 set at the Austin Opera House, in Austin, TX,
performed a month before the release of Stevie Ray’s sophomore album on April 15th that year.
